HVAC Service Technician Apprentice

Job Summary
Perform start-up, calibration, and commissioning of newly installed HVAC systems, including air conditioning, heating, and heat pump units. Test equipment against manufacturer specifications and local codes while troubleshooting electrical and mechanical performance issues. Explain system operation and maintenance procedures to customers, documenting all service activities and updates for future reference. Collaborate with installation teams and project managers to ensure projects meet expectations, while adhering to all safety guidelines and conducting regular equipment checks. Shadow junior technicians and provide job-specific training as part of the role.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- EPA 608 Certification (for refrigerant handling)
- 1+ years of hands-on HVAC experience, with a focus on system start-up, commissioning, or installation
- Strong understanding of HVAC equipment, systems, and control systems
- Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration principles
- Familiarity with tools and diagnostic equipment used for HVAC start-ups and troubleshooting
- Requires proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English
- Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds
- Must be able to climb ladders, enter crawl spaces, stand on roofs, and move up and down stairs safely
- Must be able to work in and out of doors, including in attics, basements, small-confined spaces, and rooftops
- Must be able to travel in a personal or company-provided vehicle
Desired Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited HVAC training program or apprenticeship
- NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certification
