Job Summary
The HVAC-Refrigeration Mechanic operates under the direction of the HVAC/R Supervisor, performing installation, preventative maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and diagnosis of all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. Responsibilities include understanding technical literature, effective communication with campus stakeholders, coordinating work to minimize disruption, and following safety practices. Candidates should have at least five years of experience in HVAC/R, a high school diploma or equivalent, formal trade education or equivalent experience, and valid certifications. The position requires mechanical skill, the ability to work independently, and the capacity to handle physically demanding tasks.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Formal trade school education in HVAC/R theory and practice or additional experience with a minimum of five (5) years in the HVAC/R trade under a licensed HVAC/R contractor or evidence of recurring education through industry relevant classes may be substituted for formal trade school education
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience in the HVAC/R trade under a licensed HVAC/R mechanic
- Valid Driver’s License
- EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigeration Certification
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working in a commercial kitchen or equivalent industrial equipment environment
- Experience working with low voltage controls and/or experience with high voltage systems, up to 480V
- Formal training in “hot work” safety
- Certifications in mechanical lift operations (scissor and boom)
- Certifications in equipment service directly related to the field of HVAC/R (boilers, air conditioners, etc.)
- OSHA 10 or higher
