Job Summary
HVAC PRINCIPAL DESIGNER will draft and model HVAC systems using CAD with 3D modeling, read and generate advanced design drawings, walk the field to verify systems, develop estimates and schedules, and supervise/coordinate other designers to meet project deliverables on a 1-year contract (with renewal options). Responsibilities include creating and modifying drawings, interpreting field direction, producing detailed design drawings, developing load calculations, equipment sizing, duct routing, and HVAC specifications, while ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.
Required Qualifications
- Education: combination of education and fifteen (15) years of experience (associate degree preferred)
- Experience with federal, state, and local codes and standards applicable to specialized engineering design (nuclear or other areas)
- Background and experience in drafting/designer roles across electrical, mechanical, structural, architectural, fire protection, or civil disciplines
- Advanced knowledge in HVAC system design and sizing
- Development of HVAC load calculations
- HVAC air flow diagrams and instrument diagrams
- HVAC system sequence of operation narratives
- Sizing and specification of air handling units and equipment
- HVAC main duct and distribution duct sizing and routing
- Development of black utility specifications (chiller, boiler, AHU, air compressor, cooling tower)
- Development of HVAC specifications
