Job Summary
HVAC Mechanic responsible for maintenance, installation, and repair of a wide range of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems across the institute. Performs tasks including maintaining/installing/altering air distribution systems, exhaust and supply fans, VFDs, pneumatic and other control systems, air compressors, vacuum pumps, and related electrical components; charges and checks refrigerant in refrigeration systems; responds to emergency calls and diagnoses equipment malfunctions; inspects and tests components such as filters, belts, blower wheels, thermostats and other parts; maintains cold and warm rooms, fabricates/install piping or air distribution systems, and installs/repairs water, gas, vacuum, and waste lines. Reads blueprints and specifications to determine installation or repair requirements; coordinates with TSRI personnel, utility companies, contractors, and vendors; estimates labor and material costs; may order supplies; performs routine work orders and preventative maintenance; records hours and uses CMMS software; may assist other Facilities staff. Requires at least 4 years of relevant experience, EPA refrigerant certification, high school diploma or equivalent, completed HVAC/refrigeration training, and strong communication skills. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and hold a valid driver license; may participate in call-back or off-hours work. Compensation: $40.00-$45.00 per hour (annualized $83,200-$93,600) with comprehensive benefits.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of approved HVAC and refrigeration training program
- Minimum of 4 years of directly related experience
- Experience with test air balance and HVAC diagnostic equipment
- Ability to compute heat load calculations and air exchange ratios
- EPA certification to handle refrigerant
- Interpersonal, communication, and written skills
