Job Summary
HVAC Mechanic I at the Dan River Prison Work Farm is responsible for installation, operation, preventive maintenance and repair of heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment. Tasks include troubleshooting and testing electrical, digital, and pneumatic controls, reading blueprints and schematics, and supervising lower-level assistants and offenders in performing technical repairs. The role requires working with minimum custody offenders, being available for rotating emergency call-backs, and performing related facility maintenance duties as assigned; the work is full-time with a Monday–Friday 8am–5pm schedule. Must have knowledge of personal computers and be able to handle related maintenance activities in a correctional facility environment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of HVAC systems (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- EPA certification as Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82 subpart F
