HVAC Maintenance Technician

Job Summary
Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and install HVAC systems including boilers, chillers, air handling units, and rooftop units across academic, residential, and administrative campus spaces. Perform seasonal startup and shutdown procedures, replace components, diagnose airflow issues, and manage refrigerant leaks per EPA guidelines. Assist with plumbing repairs, respond to emergency maintenance situations, and complete preventive and corrective work orders accurately. Participate in an on-call rotation and support residence hall turnovers, campus events, and peak workload periods. Work independently while communicating professionally with faculty, staff, students, and vendors.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Knowledge of HVAC controls and mechanical systems
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to HVAC and mechanical systems
- Ability to work independently and prioritize workload effectively
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, and technical documentation
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, meters, gauges, and diagnostic equipment
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Basic computer skills including email and work order systems
- EPA 608 Certification (required or ability to obtain within 90 days)
- Frequent standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders
- Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting
- Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting up to 100 pounds
- Occasional work in confined spaces and at elevated heights
- Participation in an on-call rotation and after-hours emergency response

Desired Qualifications
- HVAC certification, journeyman license, or technical/trade school training
- Experience with Building Automation Systems (Trane, Johnson Controls, Siemens, etc.)
- Experience in commercial, institutional, or campus facilities maintenance
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Technical/trade school or apprenticeship training
- Minimum 3 years of HVAC or mechanical maintenance experience
