Job Summary
The HVAC Maintenance Technician supports the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of campus facilities by performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and installations related primarily to HVAC systems and secondarily to plumbing and other mechanical systems as needed. This role services academic, residential, administrative, dining, and event spaces across Stephens College, works independently on assigned tasks, participates in an on-call rotation, and assists during emergencies and peak workload periods such as residence hall turnovers. Essential duties include maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and installing HVAC systems (boilers, chillers, AHUs, RTUs, fan coils, VAV systems, split systems, heat pumps), performing seasonal startup/shutdown procedures, replacing components, diagnosing performance issues, managing refrigerants per EPA guidelines, coordinating with BAS for monitoring, and maintaining clean mechanical spaces. It also covers plumbing support, work orders, safety/compliance (OSHA/EPA/NFPA), and general facilities tasks including support during campus events, moves, and emergency operations. Requirements include knowledge of HVAC controls, ability to read blueprints/manuals, strong troubleshooting and communication skills, and the ability to work independently with occasional on-call responsibilities; EPA 608 certification is required (or ability to obtain within 90 days); education and experience may include a high school diploma and 3+ years of HVAC/mechanical maintenance experience. - Technical/trade school/apprenticeship training preferred
Desired Qualifications

- HVAC certification, journeyman license, or technical/trade school training preferred
- Experience with Building Automation Systems (Trane, Johnson Controls, Siemens, etc.) preferred
- Experience in commercial, institutional, or campus facilities maintenance preferred
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred
