Job Summary
Teach students all aspects of Heating, Air Conditioning, Electrical, and Plumbing trades at the Somerset County Career and Technology Center. Plan sequential courses of study and daily lesson plans covering refrigeration principles. Demonstrate HVAC, electrical, and plumbing tools while instructing the class throughout the period. Enter attendance, grades, and homework assignments into the database, keeping the front office informed of student status and illness. Order materials necessary for the program and ensure work coverage while absent. Prepare students for entry-level positions in the trades upon completion of a two-year course.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a minimum of five years successful experience in the field with a high school diploma
- Minimum of three years successful experience in the field with an associate's degree in the trade or a bachelor's degree
- Minimum of two years successful experience in the field with a bachelor's degree in a state approved vocational program
- Valid State of Maryland driver's license with a good driving record
- Must obtain a Maryland Standard Professional Certificate of Teaching no later than four years after hire
- A minimum of six hours of coursework per year is required will seeking certification
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional and trade journals, technical procedures, blueprints and building plans
- Ability to write reports and procedure manuals as directed
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of vendors, administrators and the general public
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Must have thorough knowledge of HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing tools and their uses
- Must have thorough knowledge of refrigeration gases and their characteristics
- Knowledgeable of all safety procedures related to equipment and operation is required
- Knowledge of the set up and operation of soldering and brazing equipment is also required
- Must be able to determine measurement using precision instruments
- A thorough understanding of repair and maintenance procedures for HVAC equipment is expected
- Must have good attendance and assures work is covered while absent
- Must be able to work with people in large and small groups
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Individual will be exposed to hot, humid and cold outdoor weather conditions on a regular basis
Desired Qualifications
- A Commercial Driver's License is preferred
