HVAC Installation Technician

Job Summary

Install HVAC systems, repair equipment, and maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units in commercial and industrial buildings. Inspect existing units, install replacement parts, and set up ductwork and thermostats to control systems. Troubleshoot problems, run copper piping and PVC, and safely operate a company vehicle while maintaining inventory of parts. Collect payments for customers and record work progress using a computerized management system. Comply with all safety standards and represent Benedict Sales & Service with professionalism on every job.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of related HVAC installation experience
  • Valid Class D drivers license
  • Commercial insurability
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees of the organization
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Must be able to maintain a stationary position for 2-4 hours while traveling between jobsites
  • Continually required to walk inside and outside jobsites and other work locations
  • Frequently operates a commercial vehicle, power tools, and a mobile device
  • Frequently required to ascend/descend stairs and ladders to access all areas of equipment and jobsites including rooftops
  • Frequently required to bend, stoop and access small, confined spaces
  • Constantly required to work overhead above shoulder level using two arms and two hands while maintaining visual connection with the equipment for which work is being performed
  • Frequently communicates with internal and external customers using spoken word
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information through oral and written communication
  • Must be able to make fine discriminations in sound
  • Able to observe details at close range, distance range, peripherally and with the ability to adjust focus
  • Frequently utilizes visual acuity to operate vehicles, power tools & equipment and read technical information
  • Frequently required to lift/push/carry items up to 50 pounds
  • Occasionally 75+ pounds
  • Ability to run copper piping and PVC, 80% of which is overhead and above shoulder level
  • Ability to read and interpret operation and repair manuals, schematics and mechanical blueprints
  • Ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving, mechanical, and analytical skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of HVAC systems and equipment
  • Ability to use power and hand tools
  • Ability to use thermometers, pressure gauges, and other testing devices

Desired Qualifications

  • Vocational/technical school training or apprenticeship
  • EPA Universal Certification
