Job Summary
Install, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC equipment and distribution systems across 100 buildings and 235 acres of the Brandeis campus, performing preventative maintenance on compressors, filters, motors, and laboratory equipment. Relay assignments and progress to supervisors, assist with work distribution, and train or orient other staff as directed. Operate Building Management Systems, work from blueprints to install piping, and make minor repairs to electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems. Respond to emergency calls, perform standard tests, and maintain logs using the computerized work order management system. Requires a valid Massachusetts Refrigeration Technician License, EPA Universal Certification, and five years of general maintenance experience.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of codes regarding installation of HVAC/R systems, refrigeration, and associated equipment
- Minimum of five years' experience in the general maintenance field
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of basic maintenance skills
- Sufficient knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical equipment to make minor repairs and adjustments
- Knowledge of pneumatic, electrical and D.D.C. Type control systems
- Extensive knowledge of and use of computers regarding Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Ability to work from ladders, bucket trucks, scaffolds, pits, and manholes
- Ability to work alone with minimal supervision
- High School Diploma or GED
- Vocational or technical training
- Valid and current United States Driver's License
- Valid Massachusetts Refrigeration Technicians License
- EPA Universal Certification
- Valid Massachusetts Refrigeration Contractors License
- Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or senior managers
- Must be able to work within Facilities Services budget
- Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces
- Must work on ladders, buckets trucks, scaffolds, and pits
- Must be able to manually lift up to 60 pounds
- Must be able to work inside and outside all campus buildings and grounds; including on rooftops, in vaults, and outside throughout campus property
- Must be able to work in and outside during all New England seasons
- Ability to read, write, understand, and carry out oral and written instructions in English
- Ability to assess and update all work order assignments using the department's computerized work order management system
- Ability to keep logs, records time, write reports, and identify/request materials using the management system and the stock room
- Ability to establish and maintain a positive cooperative working relationship with supervisors, fellow workers, department heads, and other members of the campus community
- Ability to work in an environment subject to frequent changing of priorities and time deadlines
- Ability to drive a University Vehicle
- Must be able to work from blueprints, drawings, sketches and/or verbal instructions to plan, layout and install piping and equipment
