Job Summary
Drive commercial business growth by cultivating strategic relationships with general contractors, developers, and building owners to capture new design/build contracts. Generate precision preconstruction estimates by calculating equipment specifications, sheet metal/piping materials, and labor-hour requirements for complex HVAC builds. Lead design/build integration as the technical bridge between customer needs, internal engineers, project managers, and field crews. Execute digital on-screen takeoffs using platforms like FastDUCT or QuoteSoft to secure vendor quotes and assemble winning proposals. Coordinate preconstruction alignment through bid handoff meetings and project closeouts to ensure seamless transitions. Manage and grow the commercial service portfolio to build recurring preventive maintenance revenue. This role offers an uncapped commission structure with potential first-year earnings up to $300,000 plus ESOP equity, requiring 5+ years of commercial HVAC estimating experience and residence within the Greater Madison, WI area.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of commercial HVAC estimating, mechanical contracting, or construction sales
- hands-on experience using digital preconstruction and takeoff software (e.g., FastDUCT, QuoteSoft, PlanSwift, or similar)
- US Citizen or Green Card holder
- residence established within a daily commuting radius of the Greater Madison, WI area
- Proven track record in HVAC estimating, mechanical contracting sales, or preconstruction management within the commercial or industrial construction sector
- Strong technical fluency in commercial HVAC system configurations, fluid loops, ductwork design, and local Wisconsin mechanical building codes
- Proficiency with on-screen takeoff and digital estimating software (e.g., FastDUCT, QuoteSoft, PlanSwift, Trimble) alongside the Microsoft Office suite
- Natural ability to build immediate trust, present complex technical proposals, and negotiate effectively with developers, GCs, and executive decision-makers
- Sharp organizational skills and absolute integrity required to manage multiple complex bids and client proposals simultaneously
- Progressive work history demonstrating consistent achievement of revenue targets and accurate preconstruction deliverables
Desired Qualifications
- Experience developing preliminary conceptual designs or engineering budgets prior to detailed mechanical prints
- Background estimating complex HVAC systems for hospitals, cleanrooms, laboratories, or large industrial manufacturing plants
- Formal apprenticeship completion, Journeyman status, or a Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or Building Sciences
