Job Summary
Operate, maintain, and repair industrial HVAC systems including large-tonnage chillers, boilers, and cooling towers to ensure production-critical environmental conditions. Perform preventative maintenance on heating, ventilation, and process ventilation systems, monitoring building automation controls to optimize temperature and energy efficiency. Troubleshoot mechanical malfunctions using diagnostic tools, manage HVAC-related purchasing and inventory, and oversee contractor work quality. Respond promptly to production-related environmental issues and perform periodic checks on tools and spare parts. This weekend night shift (Thursday–Sunday, 8 PM–6:30 AM) requires on-site presence in Charleston, SC, and surrounding areas.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience maintaining and repairing commercial or industrial HVAC systems
- Strong ability to analyze the operation of large-capacity chillers, boilers, cooling towers, air handlers, and industrial mechanical systems, determine root cause, and necessary corrective action
- Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and CMMS platforms (i.e. Corrigo)
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Physical ability to bend, sit, kneel, squat, stand, reach, climb ladders, and work in mechanical rooms, on rooftops, around production equipment, and in industrial environments for extended periods
- Ability to work exposed to varying environmental conditions including heat, cold, heights, industrial noise, and both daylight and nighttime hours in a manufacturing setting as well as assist other shifts and neighboring sites as needed
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
Desired Qualifications
- EPA 608 Type II Certification or higher for refrigerant handling (Universal certification strongly preferred)
- Trade certifications or technical school training in HVAC/R, Industrial Maintenance, or Mechanical Systems, with additional credentials in Electrical or Plumbing disciplines
- Experience with industrial utility systems including compressed air, process cooling, and chilled water distribution
- Experience working in manufacturing facilities, production environments, or operations requiring precise environmental control and 24/7 uptime
- Knowledge of energy management principles, HVAC optimization strategies, and lean maintenance practices in industrial settings
- Familiarity with OSHA requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and industrial safety protocols
