HVAC Department Manager

Job Summary
Provide technical leadership to HVAC field technicians by assisting with advanced installation, troubleshooting, and diagnostic strategies. Serve as the primary resource for complex commercial systems while overseeing daily field operations, scheduling, and workforce planning. Conduct job-site visits to ensure quality workmanship and review service documentation and completed work orders. Develop technical training programs, mentor staff, and recruit new technicians to meet workload demands. Ensure compliance with safety standards and industry best practices while resolving conflicts for internal and external customers. Work a non-standard schedule including on-call nights, weekends, and holidays, traveling between business locations up to 100% of the time.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of direct commercial HVAC industry experience
- Advanced knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, controls, and troubleshooting
- Strong installation, diagnostic and problem-solving skills
- Previous experience leading, mentoring, or supervising technicians
- Ability to communicate effectively with technicians, customers, and management
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and customer satisfaction
- Valid class D driver's license and commercial insurability required
- Ability to travel between business locations and job sites up to 100% of the time
- Ability to work a non-standard schedule including on-call nights, weekends, and holidays
Desired Qualifications
- Experience managing HVAC teams or departments
- Familiarity with building automation and control systems
- EPA Certification and applicable trade licenses
- Experience with service management software and mobile field service platforms
- Technical certifications from industry manufacturers or organizations
