HVAC Controls Systems Technician

Job Summary

Read, write, and modify Building Automation Software Sequence of Operations code to adjust equipment schedules and generate historical logs. Perform daily system checks, monitor HVAC operations, and execute preventative maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical equipment while implementing energy-saving practices. Respond to urgent repair issues for HVAC and plumbing systems, including on-call availability for emergencies. Maintain safe working conditions and inspect digital, electrical, and mechanical control equipment. Requires 5 years of commercial/residential HVAC experience with BAS controls and a high school diploma or GED.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial/residential HVAC systems operations/maintenance and installation including direct experience with computer based/ DDC controls and energy management programs
  • Proficiency with computer applications
  • Universal EPA Certification for handling all applicable refrigerants
  • NH State Gas License
  • Knowledge of basic building codes
  • Willingness and ability to learn additional applications as needed
  • High degree of organizational skills with the ability to be flexible and multi-task with accuracy
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions, always maintain a professional demeanor and restraint, including stressful situations
  • Must be able to lift and transport a minimum of 50lbs without assistance
  • Ability to withstand exposure to inclement weather (rain, snow, sleet, freezing temperatures, etc.)
  • Successfully complete upon hire a criminal background check (reviewed every 5 years)
  • Clean Driving record upon hire (reviewed annually)
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment as appropriate for the work assignment

Desired Qualifications

  • Associates degree preferred, preferably in HVAC Technology or a related field
  • Firm knowledge of and experience with building automation controls similar to those currently in use within the Academy is preferred. (Schnieder Continuum/EcoStruxure; Siemens; Tridium Niagara)
  • A working knowledge of mechanical operations and hands on HVAC maintenance, including electrical, electronic and pneumatic control equipment, steam and hydronic heating systems and air conditioning systems preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Respect for diversity of identities and experiences, an orientation toward equity and inclusion, and cultural competency in all aspects of Academy life
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills as well as a strong customer focus
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously in addition to ability to work and support members on team and other departments
