Job Summary
Maintain, service, repair, disassemble, and re-build all substation plant, including high voltage, low voltage, and DC switchgear, transformers, and rotating equipment across the London Underground's HV Power Distribution Network. Diagnose and eliminate electrical and mechanical faults while performing advanced condition monitoring using thermal imaging, IR testing, and DC DAOL testing. Act as Site Person in Charge for HV Power and third-party works, declare plant fit or unfit for service, and prepare reports on faults and breakdowns. Drive company vehicles, perform vehicle checks, and undertake lifting and rigging operations for heavy plant. Complete a Low Voltage Assessment during probation and renew licenses every three years.
Required Qualifications
- Completed an indentured or modern apprenticeship in Power, Electrical or Mechanical roles
- Have an Electrical, Mechanical or Power Engineering technical qualification or equivalent
- Be proficient in the use of electrical test equipment used to determine the condition of plant & equipment
- Have relevant electrical or mechanical experience (fitting skills)
- The ability to understand technical drawings
- Have a full clean driving licence
- Sound electrical knowledge of DC battery supplies, three phase AC electrical supplies, transformer principles, the fundamentals of circuit protection and earthing arrangements
- Time served in a Power, Electrical or Mechanical environment
- Must be able to demonstrate their right to work in the UK
- Subject to pre-employment drugs and alcohol test and ongoing random testing in compliance with LU Standards
