HV Critical Systems Director

Job Summary
Lead concept, feasibility, and detailed designs for High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) power distribution systems up to 33 kV across industrial, healthcare, government, and marine sectors. Act as the UK electrical subject matter expert to guide clients on resilience, redundancy, and decarbonisation, covering the full lifecycle from concept through commissioning and operational optimisation. Develop equipment specifications, protection philosophies, and earthing designs while conducting network modelling, fault analysis, and arc flash assessments using ETAP or Trimble. Provide technical assurance on private HV network connections to Distribution Network Operators, ensuring compliance with ENA, IEC, and BS standards. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver integrated, sustainable solutions that support the UK's net-zero transition.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience in HV and LV design
- Proven experience in private HV networks up to 33 kV
- Experience in substation design
- Experience in switchgear specification
- Experience in protection coordination
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status
- Proficiency in power system analysis software such as ETAP, Trimble or equivalent
- Demonstrated capability in protection studies
- Demonstrated capability in fault analysis
- Demonstrated capability in load flow
- Demonstrated capability in arc flash assessments
- Strong understanding of resilience and redundancy architectures (N+1, 2N)
- Experience with DNO interfaces
- Experience with G99 compliance
- Knowledge of ENA standards
Desired Qualifications
- Ideally with the IET
- Knowledge of low-carbon and energy transition technologies
- Knowledge of battery energy storage systems (BESS)
- Knowledge of renewable integration
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to translate technical detail into clear commercial and operational outcomes
