Husbandry Assistant - Animal Trainer

Job Summary
Conduct daily husbandry operations by cleaning and maintaining animal habitats, preparing diets, and safely handling diverse live animals including mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. Observe animal health concerns, communicate findings, and maintain accurate electronic and hard-copy records. Provide superior guest interactions and ensure compliance with health, safety, and policy standards while assisting in emergency situations to minimize damage or injury. Maintain collaborative relationships with the Guest Experience Department and Aquarium Foundation. Work seven days a week with varying schedules, weekends, and holidays to reflect seasonal business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to read, listen, and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system
- Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations
- Ability to perform the physical, visual, and hearing requirements in the working conditions below
- Excellent guest interaction/entertainment/interpretation skills
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions well
- Excellent at working independently and within a team
- Professional demeanor, reliable, strong work ethic, positive attitude, and dedicated to the mission of zoos & aquariums
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Strong listening, presentation and decision-making skills
- Must be able to work varying schedules, weekends, holidays and overtime
- Must be able to attend group and/or department meetings in addition to the work shift, as necessary
- Must comply with standards, rules and regulations established by the Company
- Must comply with health and safety standards in accordance with local municipality, state and federal rules and regulations
- Must comply with all policy and procedures
