Job Summary

Hunger Advocacy Fellow responsibilities include building and sustaining a Lutheran state advocacy network, engaging with faith-based and community organizations to advance hunger justice, and communicating policy priorities. Responsibilities cover advocacy engagement, writing and editing action alerts and position papers, representing the advocacy network in coalitions, leadership development and faith formation, and applying ELCA social teaching to policy work. The role requires collaboration with ELCA staff and state public policy offices, knowledge of hunger and economic injustice issues, and the ability to work in a dynamic political environment. Desired skills include research, written and oral communication, facilitation of public forums, coalition building, storytelling, and a commitment to faith-based public policy advocacy. Required Qualifications

  • Open, engaging personality and preparedness for interacting with community members affected by hunger or poverty
  • Willingness to learn about ELCA’s commitment to public policy advocacy
  • Understanding of biblical and theological basis of church commitments and public policy advocacy
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with synodical leadership and partners
  • Good research and analysis skills; excellent written and oral communication; ability to design and lead public forums
  • Knowledge of social issues faced by communities served and sensitivity to diverse residents of the state
  • Appreciation for ELCA mission, vision, and values
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and anti-racism
  • Minimum technical competency: Windows enables operation and basic troubleshooting; proficient in Microsoft Office
