Job Summary

Answer phones, direct calls to staff, and greet visitors while managing mail and office supplies. Process personnel action forms, maintain employee and applicant files, and ensure annual evaluations are completed. Input data into the Human Resources System, prepare hiring documents, and assist with annual job fairs and data reports. Conduct employee orientation, administer drug and alcohol tests, and calibrate breath alcohol-testing devices. Fly within the North Slope Borough School District as needed. Maintain confidentiality of all personnel records and adhere to District policies.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three years secretarial/clerical experience

  • Valid Alaska Driver License
  • Ability to read, explain, and apply complex rules, regulations and procedures

  • Ability to review and process personnel action forms and all other hiring/termination forms for classified and temporary positions
  • Ability to assist with maintaining and tracking temporary hire lists and filling temporary positions
  • Ability to prepare documents, compile material, and assist with the annual job fairs
  • Ability to prepare and submit Department of Education & Early Development, Classified Staffing Report, and other reports as needed
  • Ability to assist in preparing ad hoc data reports to the Superintendent, Human Resources Director and Board of Education
  • Ability to ensure that all employees receive an annual evaluation pursuant to District policies
  • Ability to monitor the status of information with timelines
  • Ability to prepare hiring documents for employees as needed
  • Ability to prepare added duty contracts
  • Ability to maintain classified employee job descriptions
  • Ability to advertise District classified vacancies as needed
  • Ability to interface with employees and the public regarding questions on personnel procedures
  • Ability to maintain employee and applicant files
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and confidentiality of current and archived personnel filing systems
  • Ability to analyze applications and/or personnel forms to ensure that they are accurate and complete
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality with personnel records and information
  • Ability to schedule appointments, make travel arrangements, and assemble material for meetings
  • Ability to administer drug and alcohol tests utilizing federal drug and alcohol testing procedures as needed
  • Ability to calibrate and verify the evidential breath alcohol-testing devices as required and maintain quality control standards of the device
  • Ability to conduct temporary and permanent hire orientation when necessary
  • Ability to cross train with other employees within the department and provide coverage as needed
  • Ability to perform receptionist duties as required
  • Ability to adhere to all District policies and regulations
  • Willingness and ability to fly in small and large commuter planes
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
