Job Summary
Process semi-monthly payroll for faculty, staff, and seasonal employees, reconciling earnings, deductions, and taxes while managing new hires, salary changes, and terminations. Administer the employee lifecycle including recruitment support, onboarding, orientation, and offboarding, maintaining personnel files and HRIS records in compliance with federal and California regulations. Coordinate benefits administration for health, dental, vision, retirement, and leave programs, including open enrollment and COBRA. Ensure compliance with FLSA, FMLA, ADA, and I-9 requirements while supporting audits, accreditation requests, and workers' compensation claims. Assist the CFOO with salary research and compensation updates, prepare workforce metrics, and support performance evaluation processes. Work onsite at the MPMS campus in Larkspur, CA, with normal hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., though occasional evening or weekend work may be required during payroll processing or school events.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field
- Minimum of 3–5 years of payroll and human resources experience
- Thorough understanding of payroll processing and payroll tax regulations
- Knowledge of California employment law and federal labor regulations
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Ability to work independently while collaborating across departments
- Ability to sit for extended periods
- Ability to use standard office equipment
- Occasionally lift up to 15 pounds
Desired Qualifications
- Experience processing payroll for 50+ employees
- Experience in independent schools, higher education, or nonprofit organizations
- Experience with Paylocity HRIS and payroll software
- Experience with benefits administration
- SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP)
- Professional in Human Resources (PHR)
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
