Job Summary
HR Generalist oversees leave administration (short-term/long-term disability, workers’ compensation, FMLA, NYS Paid Family Leave, ADA and other leaves), manages liaison between employees, departments, and third-party admins for documentation and payroll, and handles leave tracking. Shares Workers’ Compensation program responsibilities with EHS and coordinates incident investigations, OSHA logging, and related reporting. Provides guidance on leave and accommodation matters, supports benefits enrollment/open enrollment, assists in recruitment across departments, and ensures compliance with policies and laws. Requires an associate’s degree and 1-3 years HR experience, strong communications, proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, HRIS (Workday preferred), and basic web-page administration; confidentiality and professionalism are essential. Location: Schenectady, NY; Exempt, Regular Full-time.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree
- 1-3 years general HR experience (preferably in higher education)
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to independently manage multiple deadlines and priorities
- Ability to interpret and apply policies, regulations, and laws
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; basic familiarity with Google Suite
- Human Resources Information Systems (Workday experience preferred)
- Web-page administration
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
