Job Summary
Benefits coordinator administers and supports employee benefits, leave of absence programs, workers’ compensation, retirement plans, and wellness initiatives across the Tennessee Aquarium, Creative Discovery Museum, and Hunter Museum of American Art. This role serves as a key resource for employees, managers, retirees, and external partners by providing guidance, ensuring compliance, maintaining accurate records, and delivering employee support throughout the employment lifecycle. Essential duties include administering benefit programs (health, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement), conducting benefits orientations and onboarding, coordinating annual open enrollment, processing enrollments/terminations/qualifying life events in HRIS, reconciling invoices, partnering with Payroll on deductions, coordinating wellness initiatives, and managing benefits fair activities. Leave administration covers FMLA and disability leave, compliance with regulations (FMLA, HIPAA, COBRA, ERISA, OSHA), and communication of policies. Workers’ compensation includes injury reporting, claim documentation, and return-to-work support, with OSHA compliance. Administrative responsibilities focus on maintaining confidential records, updating handbooks and benefits guides, supporting special projects, and leveraging HRIS tools (UKG). Required skills include knowledge of benefits legislation, strong communication and organizational abilities, confidentiality, and proficiency with Microsoft Office. The role requires on-site work with occasional travel among the museums and a schedule that varies with organizational needs.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in benefits administration, Human Resources, or a related field
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
- Experience administering workers’ compensation and leave programs
- Knowledge of retirement plans and employee benefits compliance
- Experience supporting open enrollment and employee benefits communication
- Experience using HRIS and benefits administration systems, preferably UKG
