Human Resource Specialist

Job Summary

Process time sheets via Red Rover and enter payroll data into the SMART system while posting benefit costs to the general ledger and performing monthly reconciliations. Review and reconcile attendance data, investigate discrepancies, and execute the FMLA process including eligibility determination and tracking usage. Manage the full onboarding cycle from processing paperwork and drafting job offers to conducting reference verifications and background checks. Assist with employee health insurance administration, open enrollment preparation, and support mandatory reporting such as the REP report and BLS submissions. Provide backup for workers' compensation claims and manage office organization and supply ordering as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with staff, candidates, and community stakeholders
  • Proven ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with absolute discretion
  • Associate's degree in human resources, business or a related field or 2-4 years of progressive experience in an office or HR setting
  • Possession of a Michigan School Business Officials Human Resources Specialist Certification or willingness to obtain
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization
  • Ability to calculate figures such as proportions, percentages and basic algebra as they relate to payroll, benefit allocations, and FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) reporting
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, applicants, and community stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
  • The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District
