Job Summary
Support the classroom of preschool or toddler-aged children under the supervision of the Site Supervisor. Help teachers with rest time and manage breaks, while assisting with meal preparation, dishwashing, and daily hygiene routines like tooth brushing and hand washing. Maintain a safe environment for children in the classroom and outdoor playground, providing emotional support to encourage high self-esteem. Ensure all children receive age-appropriate experiences that maximize their learning at their development level. Certification in Pediatric First Aid and CPR is required within 90 days of assignment, along with state licensing requirements, mandated reporter training, and influenza vaccination. Orientation on Head Start Performance Standards and Basic Classroom SOPs is provided prior to subbing.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma
- Certification in Pediatric First Aid and CPR
- State law and county licensing requirements regarding employment in a child care center (fingerprints, TB, physical)
- Proof of immunity to measles and pertussis
- Mandated reporter training
- Influenza vaccination or medical exemption
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Area Directors / Site Supervisors, staff, and parents
- Ability to use written and oral communication skills
- Ability to observe
- Ability to interact with staff, clients, children and parents
- Ability to use math and mathematical reasoning
- Ability to learn and apply new skills and information
- Ability to perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks
