HS Head Academic Decathlon - Roosevelt

Academic Decathlon Coach for Des Moines Public Schools. Responsible for conducting weekly practices, submitting an annual activity plan, attending all competitions, actively recruiting new members, and communicating with staff about competition dates and times. Ensure team members are eligible to participate and adhere to DMPS and United States Academic Decathlon rules. Attend district-wide meetings and submit reports with student evidence. Prepare team members for tests across science, math, economics, social science, literature, art and music, including essay, speech, and interview categories. Present materials, practice exams, and lead discussions and presentations during weekly practices; start practices as early as May and continue through January (state qualifiers through March). Qualifications include experience as an academic decathlon instructor/participant and a valid driver’s license; a Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field is desired. Department is Activities; reports to Building Administrator and Activities Director; FLSA status Exempt; part-time position located in Des Moines, IA. All candidates must pass criminal background and registry checks; some positions may require fingerprinting or other checks.
