Job Summary
HR Payroll & Benefits Specialist responsible for owning payroll administration for a multi-state workforce with a focus on California and Colorado wage/hour requirements, timekeeping accuracy, and benefits administration. This role also administers leaves, accommodations, workers’ compensation, HRIS data integrity, and compliance reporting, coordinating with managers and Finance to resolve payroll questions and improve processes. The position supports open enrollment, retirement plan administration (including ESOP), and maintains confidential employee records while ensuring accuracy and timely payroll processing in a small but growing HR team. Qualified candidates will have 3+ years of payroll experience, familiarity with multi-state payroll rules, ADP Workforce Now or similar systems, strong Excel and reporting skills, and the ability to work independently with sound judgment. The role is based in Stockton, CA, with initial onsite work and a subsequent hybrid schedule.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on payroll processing experience
- Experience with payroll audits, pay codes, corrections, reconciliations, deductions, final pay, and routine pay-treatment questions
- Working knowledge of multi-state payroll requirements, including California wage/hour exposure
- Experience using ADP Workforce Now or a similar payroll/HRIS platform
- Strong Excel, reporting, reconciliation, data review, and recordkeeping skills
- Strong attention to detail, confidentiality, judgment, communication, organization, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently while knowing when to ask questions, seek guidance, or escalate sensitive matters
