Job Summary
Housing & Welfare Support Officer provides welfare benefits advice and guidance to residents of Walsall, supporting vulnerable individuals in securing settled accommodation, conducting risk and needs assessments, developing support and risk management plans, and ensuring compliance with policies and Health & Safety in Temporary Accommodation units. The role involves face-to-face and telephone engagement with service users, ongoing knowledge of relevant services, stakeholder engagement, and meeting KPIs and workload management. Requires safeguarding responsibilities, English-language proficiency, and BPSS/DBS clearance. Emphasis on empowering residents toward financial independence and stable housing; duties include safeguarding, emergency precautions, and contributing to the Housing and Welfare Service’s objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Enhanced DBS check
- BPSS check
- English language fluency duty
- Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations for accommodation or housing settings
- Experience in welfare benefits advice and support planning
- Ability to engage with vulnerable individuals and adapt provisions to needs
- Understanding of safeguarding and risk management
- Ability to work to KPIs and maintain documentation
- Experience in a local government/public sector role
