Job Summary
The Housing Specialist conducts comprehensive assessments of shelter residents to determine eligibility for CityFHEPS, SOTA, FHEPS A, and FHEPS B programs, assists residents with completing applications, guides residents through the housing search process, liaises with landlords to secure housing placements, maintains accurate records, collaborates with case managers to develop individualized housing plans, and stays informed about program changes. Requires a Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience in housing assistance or case management; strong interpersonal, documentation, and IT skills; and bilingual abilities preferred. The role focuses on coordinating housing options for individuals and families in DHS shelters, including asylum hotels, through various rental assistance programs and ensuring compliance with program requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in housing assistance, case management, or a related field
- Knowledge of CityFHEPS, SOTA, FHEPS A, and FHEPS B programs and other housing assistance programs in NYC
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software
- Bilingual skills (preferred but not required)
