Job Summary
The Housing Specialist assists low-income families and individuals, including homeless, elderly or disabled, to secure and retain decent, safe, and sanitary affordable housing. Responsibilities include completing annual and interim re-examinations for HCV Program participants, notifying participants and landlords of updates, facilitating move requests and rent adjustments, explaining, interpreting, and applying HUD and Agency policies, and ensuring service delivery with excellent customer service. Key duties include staying current with HUD regulations, adhering to Fair Housing policies, calculating and verifying participant income, conducting interviews to gather information, scheduling and conducting redeterminations of eligibility, collecting required documentation, coordinating with leasing and contracting teams on reexaminations and moves, maintaining accurate client files per HUD and Agency policies, answering inquiries, and meeting productivity standards. The role supports housing for low-income families and requires collaboration with multiple staff and programs to ensure timely eligibility determinations and housing assistance.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree and/or college credit hours preferred in business, social work, or public administration.
- 3-5 years of previous experience working with the public in a Housing Choice Voucher, low-income tax credit, similar non-profit programs working with low-income families.
- Must possess 1-3 years of client service experience.
- Previous experience as a supervisor or in a leadership role, desired.
- A combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the employment standard listed above and that would provide the required knowledge and abilities
- Experience working in a high-volume call and production environment with high performance guidelines and stringent deadline
- Knowledge of public sector housing authority programs and systems is a plus.
- Bi-lingual is a plus.
