Housing Navigator - Sheltered (Full Time, M-F, 1st Shift)

Job Summary

Connect clients with housing resources, market rate options, and necessary agency services while developing Individualized Service Plans for each case load. Provide comprehensive case management assistance, including assessment screenings, recommendations, and crisis intervention as needed. Work with shelter staff to meet basic client needs and serve as a liaison to community-based and governmental partners. Track client progress and participate in agency Program Team activities and staff training. Operate from an alternative location on a former college campus as part of a pilot program assisting guests maintain employment and transition from dormitory housing. Requires a valid driver's license, ability to drive agency vehicles, and CPR/First Aid certification.

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as a case manager
  • Current and valid driver's license
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to be insured on the agency's automobile policy
  • Ability to drive agency-owned vehicles, including passenger vans
  • Ability to lift 25-30 lbs
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid or willingness and ability to complete certification within 60 days of hire

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience working with homeless populations, especially in a shelter setting
  • Knowledge of, or ability to quickly develop competency with, issues related to homelessness, effective intervention techniques, and motivational interviewing
  • Basic understanding of mental health and substance abuse issues
  • Knowledge of housing opportunities and programs for homeless individuals
  • Skill to plan, organize, and coordinate case management activities
  • Skill to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Skill to provide liaison to service partners, governmental agencies, and the public
  • Skill to promote social services programs and provide public relations
  • Skill to work effectively with staff, volunteers, clientele, and the public
  • Skill to prepare and present reports
  • Skill to manage client records in hardcopy and database formats
  • Ability to work independently with minimal daily supervision
  • Ability to work as member of multiple teams
  • Ability to compassionately engage and build trust with an often-difficult population
