Housing Focused Shelter Worker - Permanent Part-Time

Job Summary

Respond to individuals in crisis, both inside and outside the building, by addressing physical or mental health concerns, managing anger and aggression, and utilizing de-escalation skills to minimize harm. Conduct housing-focused case management intake, schedule regular check-ins, and engage in daily intentional conversations with shelter participants to help them achieve short-term and long-term housing goals while carrying a 3-4 individual caseload. Enforce shelter rules, facilitate reconciliatory conversations, and assist with daily meal programs, janitorial tasks, and security checks to ensure a safe, clean environment. Provide referrals and support for basic needs, maintaining accurate client records in CCMS and HMIS while adhering to privacy and confidentiality standards.

Required Qualifications

  • 1 year of experience working with a marginalized population
  • Experience working within the culture of the inner city and/or with the less fortunate
  • A demonstrated passion to be involved in ending homelessness in Alberta
  • Follow organizational protocols of front-line programs to completion
  • Able to multi-task and demonstrate organizational skills with shifting priorities
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and conflict resolution skills
  • Self-starter capable of working effectively within a cross-functional team
  • Strong desire to work with a marginalized and vulnerable population
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
