Housing Focused Shelter Worker (Permanent Part-Time)-Solace Shelter

Job Summary

Serve as the first point of contact for shelter participants, responding promptly to crises involving physical or mental health concerns, anger, and aggression while utilizing de-escalation skills. Conduct housing-focused case management intake, schedule regular check-ins, and engage in daily intentional conversations with a caseload of 7-8 clients to set and achieve housing goals. Enforce shelter rules, facilitate reconciliatory conversations, and assist with daily meal programs while maintaining a safe, clean environment through janitorial tasks and security checks. Collect accurate client records in CCMS using FDARP, adhere to privacy standards, and model healthy relationships through active listening and appropriate referrals. Work within a challenging environment requiring resilience, conflict resolution, and adherence to health and safety policies, reporting incidents through safety software as required.

Required Qualifications

  • 1 year of experience working with marginalized populations
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • An Employment Background Check is required for all positions at The Mustard Seed
  • Must be able to respond appropriately to intense situations
  • Must be able to provide conflict resolution
  • Must be able to work directly with clients at risk
  • Must have the training in usage of a two-way radio communications
  • Must have the training in usage of MS Office based computer programming
  • Must have the training in usage of the CCMS database system
  • Must have the training in usage of FDARP
  • Must have the training in usage of FOIPPA
  • Must have the training in usage of First aid
  • Must have the training in usage of NVCI
  • Must have the training in usage of SafeTALK
  • Must be able to respect and not detract from The Mustard Seed's Employment Values

Desired Qualifications

  • Diploma and/or certificate in Human Services, Social Work, or a relevant field (preferred)
  • Demonstrated passion for ending homelessness in British Columbia
  • Experience in case management and advocacy (considered an asset)
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and adapt to shifting priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as conflict resolution abilities
  • Self-starter capable of working effectively within a cross-functional team
  • Strong desire to work with marginalized and vulnerable populations
  • Demonstrated teachability and a proactive attitude, with a willingness to take initiative
  • Integrity, discretion, and tact in handling confidential matters
