Housing and Recreational Vehicle Department Director

Job Summary

Evaluate and approve construction documents, structural calculations, and quality assurance manuals for manufactured homes, recreational vehicles, and modular housing units. Supervise department staff and budget while delivering technical assistance to manufacturers, local communities, and state/federal agencies. Perform inspections at consumer homes and manufacturing facilities to ensure conformance with federal and state acts. Collaborate with Commissioners to develop policies and represent the Commission on state and national committees.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil engineering or Architecture
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must be available for occasional statewide overnight travel
  • Strong management, supervisory, organizational and customer/consumer relations skills
  • experience in building construction fields and quality assurance
  • Ability to Read, interpret, and evaluate engineering plans and specifications
  • Ability to organize, analyze, and evaluate available information and draw reasonable conclusions
  • Ability to communicate information clearly and concisely with manufacturers' and governmental employees
  • Ability to learn and acquire the knowledge and experience relative to various certifications required by the work assigned
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with diverse constituencies
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to communicate with individuals and groups both orally and in writing
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Ability to prioritize work
  • Ability to work independently without supervision

Desired Qualifications

  • Registered professional civil engineer or architect in the State of Nebraska
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite (excel, word, access, and outlook)
  • Knowledge of Building codes
  • Knowledge of construction industry
  • Knowledge of engineering theories, principles, and practices as they relate to engineering, design, and construction
  • Knowledge of design standards, specifications, and procedures required by the PSC
  • Knowledge of basic practices and terminology of computer operation
  • Knowledge of mathematical concepts and formulae
