Job Summary
Wardrobe Supervisor at Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) leads the Wardrobe department across BAM’s campus, overseeing operations for Opera House, Harvey Theater and Fishman Theater. The role requires strong leadership, high attention to detail, significant theatrical wardrobe experience, collaboration with production management and backstage departments, and ensuring crew are qualified and diverse. Responsibilities include supervising wardrobe crews during load-in, tech, and performances; interpreting costume lists and wardrobe run sheets; planning crew staffing; coordinating with production staff on shows and events; processing weekly payroll with correct rates and overtime; ensuring required paperwork is completed; creating equipment and expendables lists; and maintaining wardrobe program proficiency. This position demands irregular hours, physical endurance for backstage duties, and union affiliation with IATSE Local 764. Compensation is set via the Local 764 CBA, with an hourly rate of $51.30 and overtime details, plus benefits and potential extended weeks.
Required Qualifications
- 7 years’ experience in wardrobe stage work
- Advanced knowledge of theatrical wardrobe, including costume construction, alterations, repairs, and maintenance
- Proficient computer abilities including email and the ability to learn and adapt to new programs
- Union Affiliation: If not currently a member, the successful candidate will be required to join IATSE Local 764
- Commitment of 30 consecutive weeks with 40 hours per week, with additional weeks possible
- Submit accurate and timely payroll to the Production office each week, including correct rates and applicable overtime for all supervisors and dressers
- Work with BAM’s Human Resources department to provide necessary paperwork for new hires and ensure all crew are filling out required and up-to-date paperwork
