Job Summary
Oversee visual storytelling for Student Media by directing photography, videography, graphics, and page design across the newspaper, website, and broadcast platforms. Assign, supervise, and mentor photographers, videographers, and graphic designers while coordinating coverage of campus news, athletics, features, and special events. Review and edit all visual content for quality, accuracy, and adherence to journalistic ethics and accessibility standards. Ensure deadlines are met for print, digital, and social media publications. Train student staff on editing software, camera equipment, and multimedia production techniques. This role requires a full-time student with a 2.5 GPA and experience in visual journalism or creative software. Candidates must be available to start August 24, 2025, with publication deadlines on Sundays and Wednesday nights, plus Tuesday training sessions from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Work is performed on-campus in Laramie at 7,220 feet above sea level.
Required Qualifications
- Full-time student
- Minimum 2.5 GPA
- Experience in photography, videography, graphic design, multimedia production, or visual journalism
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software such as Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects, InDesign, or comparable creative software
- Understanding of visual storytelling, composition, design principles, and multimedia production techniques
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet frequent production deadlines
- Ability to work collaboratively with editors, reporters, producers, designers, and other student staff
- Willingness to train, mentor, and supervise fellow student employees
- Access to a digital camera
- Must be available to start work Aug. 24, 2025
- Must be available for publication deadlines on Sundays and Wednesday nights
- Must be available Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for training
- Must be available to work and perform essential job functions on campus
Desired Qualifications
- Ability to shoot quality digital photographs in newspaper style
- Some prior supervisory experience
