Job Summary
Direct and control vehicular and pedestrian traffic using hand signals, stop signs, and communication equipment to ensure student safety at assigned school locations. Monitor traffic flow, judge speed and direction, and group pedestrians logically to facilitate orderly crossings. Report traffic hazards, vehicle code violations, and rule breaches to the Sheriff's Office and immediate supervisor. Maintain a clean, neat appearance and punctual attendance while serving as a role model for students and the public. Complete required training sessions, including First Aid/CPR/AED and Handle with Care, and adhere to all Stafford County Public Schools policies.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or its equivalent
- Valid Virginia Driver's License
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must be certified by the Sheriff's Office to conduct Crossing Guard duties
- Basic safety rules for school buildings
- Basic safe driving rules and procedures for Crossing Guards
- Techniques for communicating with children and adults
- English and grammar usage
- Current Virginia traffic laws and emergency procedures
- Complete Handle with Care Training
- Complete First Aid/CPR/AED Training
- Direct and control vehicular and pedestrian traffic through arm and hand signals, after training by the Stafford County Sheriff's Office and the Stafford County Public Schools' Safety & Security Office
- Use hand-held stop sign, reflector vest, cones, whistle, gloves and communication equipment
- Judge traffic flow, speed and direction of travel and group pedestrians in a logical manner
- Provide own transportation, be punctual, and reliable
- Work cooperatively in a team environment to meet goals
- Organize and perform work independently
- Meet deadlines for all work even when working on multiple projects
