Job Summary
Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and orderliness in all kitchens, back dock, dumpster, and utility work areas. Operate dishwashing equipment to thoroughly clean china, glass, and silver, then return items to proper storage to minimize breakage. Perform heavy-duty cleaning of ovens, grills, sinks, walls, floors, walk-in refrigerators, and freezers, while washing pots, pans, and utensils following sanitation procedures. Sweep, mop, and vacuum carpeted areas throughout food and beverage outlets, and assist with restaurant buffet setup and breakdown as required. Empty garbage into the hotel dumpster, report faulty equipment immediately, and ensure all fire extinguishing equipment is accessible. Follow proper chemical handling techniques and sanitation standards while cross-training in other hotel areas. Maintain regular attendance and comply with Highgate Hotel Standards, including scheduling that varies according to hotel needs.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Experience in a hotel or a related field
- Flexible and long hours
- Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
- Ability to stand during entire shift
- Ability to withstand temperature variations, both hot and cold
- Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all level of employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service oriented manner
- Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by employees and guests
- Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines
- Must be able to understand and apply complex information, data, etc. from various sources to meet appropriate objectives
- Must be able to cross-train in other hotel related areas
- Must be able to show initiative, including anticipating guest or operational needs
- Must maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel Standards, as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel
- Must maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which includes wearing the proper uniform and nametag
- Must comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations
- Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary
