Job Summary
Hostler role coordinating yard and dock movements to ensure continuous freight flow, including shuttle of empty and loaded trailers, loading/unloading, and movement of freight using forklifts and pallet jacks. Focus on safety, adherence to work orders and procedures, and collaboration with operations to align priorities and improve throughput. Responsibilities include interpreting instructions, maintaining accurate counts, securing loads, and applying safety protocols; requires reading safety rules and procedural documents, math aptitude, strong verbal communication, teamwork, prioritization, and sound judgment. Onsite at the Chicago, IL area with hourly pay between $18 and $20.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification
- Hazardous Materials training or willingness to complete training
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, work orders, and procedural documentation
- Working math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, and fractions)
- Strong verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate across operations teams
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and handle multiple responsibilities
- Demonstrated sound judgment in environments with limited structure
