Job Summary
Hostler role focused on executing yard and dock movement with precision to shuttle empty and loaded trailers across dock doors, staging areas, and parking lots. Responsibilities include loading/unloading and transporting freight using forklifts and manual handling equipment, interpreting work orders, aligning trailer positioning with inbound/outbound schedules, maintaining continuous flow to reduce bottlenecks, and ensuring safe operation and compliance with safety protocols. The role requires coordinating with operations and dock supervisors, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, counting and verifying freight, and following hazardous materials procedures when applicable. Emphasis on teamwork, safety, accuracy, and adaptability in a fast-paced logistics environment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification
- Hazardous Materials training or willingness to complete training
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, work orders, and procedural documentation
- Working math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, and fractions)
- Strong verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate across operations teams
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and handle multiple responsibilities
- Demonstrated sound judgment in environments with limited structure
