Job Summary
Greet arriving customers, escort them to assigned tables, and issue menus while soliciting rapport to accommodate special needs. Assign sections, notify servers of new seats, and maintain a visible presence at the cashier station to assist with service and assess operational efficiency. Process payments accurately on the computerized register, count back change aloud, verify charge vouchers, and elicit feedback from departing guests to improve operations. Distribute checks to servers, balance daily revenues, reconcile reports, and report maintenance discrepancies to management. Perform cleaning duties, check table setups, and balance manual and computerized records at shift end.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience of 3 months in a position with heavy cash handling responsibilities and customer service exposure
- High school graduate level mathematical aptitude
- Knowledge of standard cash handling procedures
- Knowledge of computerized cash register systems
- General knowledge of basic customer service skills
- General knowledge of restaurant operations
- General knowledge of foodservice principles
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English
- Ability to follow written and verbal instruction
- Ability to work on more than one task at a time
- Ability to use tact and understanding when dealing with a variety of customer service problems, including stressful and highly emotional situations
- Ability to handle coins and writing utensils
- Ability to grasp handles
- Ability to push buttons
- Ability to carry dishes
- Ability to lift and carry trays and bus tubs weighing up to 10lbs
- Ability to stand throughout entire shift
- Ability to lift arms above head to retrieve objects from shelves
- Vision ability to read written communiques, computer screens and print-outs
- Ability to see colors
- Ability to survey entire room in dimly lit conditions
