Hospital Registration Specialist

Job Summary
Facilitate patient tracking and billing by obtaining and verifying accurate demographic information, securing financial responsibility from guarantors, and maximizing hospital reimbursement. Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, and HIPAA regulations while ensuring proper patient identification and triage upon arrival. Answer telephone inquiries, record messages, and communicate with medical staff; provide and obtain signatures on required forms and consents. Verify insurance benefits, confirm payors, and obtain authorizations as needed. Scan clinical documentation into the system, maintain medical records, and coordinate patient transfers. Pursue collections at the time of service, maintain cash drawers, and update logs for patients, payments, and admissions. Keep the front desk and waiting areas clean, receive deliveries, and notify staff of equipment malfunctions.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting
- Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors
- Basic understanding of medical terminology
- Excellent customer service
- Working knowledge of MS Office (MS Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Fluency in English; written and oral communication
- Fluency in both English & Spanish
- Act 33 (Child Abuse History Clearance), & Act 73 (FBI Fingerprint Criminal History Clearance) completed within the last 5 years, or must be obtained prior to start date
Desired Qualifications
- Emergency Department registration experience
- Working knowledge of MS Office (MS Word, Excel and Outlook)
