Hospital Coding Specialist II (Observation)

Job Summary
Responsibilities include reviewing and interpreting medical record documentation to assign ICD-10, CPT, or modifiers for moderately complex outpatient encounters (ED, observations, same day care). Codes hospital classes (ED, OBS, SDC), ensures timely coding, charging and data abstraction, maintains current coding knowledge through trainings, and interfaces with physicians to obtain information required for accurate coding. Requires strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology; effective written and verbal communication; ability to work in a standard office environment with potential travel; 40 hours per week; non-exempt status. Preferred qualifications include HIT program graduate or Medical Coding Certification, and ongoing professional development.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Current HIM or Coding Certification (AHIMA or AAPC)
- Two (2) years of hospital coding experience
