Hospice Staff Physician (Hospice & Palliative Medicine)

Job Summary
Evaluate and manage patients receiving hospice and palliative care services in homes, facilities, inpatient settings, and clinics. Provide expert assessment and management of complex symptoms, lead goals-of-care conversations, and certify hospice eligibility with required recertifications and face-to-face encounters. Collaborate with referring physicians, specialists, and an interdisciplinary team including nurse practitioners and social workers to ensure seamless continuity of care. Participate in night and weekend coverage rotations while mentoring advanced practice providers. Serve as attending physician for hospice patients electing Mountain Valley services across 18 counties in Southwestern Virginia and Northwestern North Carolina.
Required Qualifications
- MD or DO
- Eligible for medical licensure in both Virginia and North Carolina (or ability to obtain licensure)
- DEA registration in both Virginia and North Carolina (or ability to obtain)
- Valid driver's license with ability to travel throughout Mountain Valley Hospice's 18-county service area in Southwestern Virginia and Northwestern North Carolina
- Participate along with the provider team in night and weekend coverage

- Physicians with significant experience caring for patients with advanced illness—including Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Geriatrics, Oncology, Pulmonary/Critical Care, or other applicable specialties—who have a sincere interest in transitioning into Hospice and Palliative Medicine
- Hospice and Palliative Medicine board certification or eligibility
