Job Summary
Write detailed, accurate admission narratives for patients with terminal illnesses to establish hospice eligibility, ensuring compliance with Medicare guidelines and organizational standards. Collaborate with healthcare teams, including hospice nurses and intake coordinators, to gather clinical details and review patient history, diagnoses, and recent notes. Maintain confidentiality by adhering to all privacy regulations and institutional policies while updating narratives to reflect ongoing patient status and care plans. Complete assignments within agreed-upon turnaround times. This role supports Iowa City Hospice's mission of providing compassionate end-of-life care and dignity to patients and their families.
Required Qualifications
- MD or DO with an active, unrestricted medical license
- Strong understanding of Medicare hospice eligibility guidelines and terminal illness prognostication
- Proven experience in clinical documentation, medical writing, or related fields
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent written communication skills with a focus on clarity, empathy, and professionalism
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple documentation tasks efficiently
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of terminal illness care, palliative care, or hospice services is preferred
