Job Summary
Hospice Chaplain On Call provides spiritual care to patients and families in a hospice setting. Responsibilities include spiritual assessment, developing and implementing individualized care plans, delivering direct spiritual care, serving as liaison to community chaplains, maintaining documentation for quality and program development, attending interdisciplinary group meetings, and providing education and support to the team. Recruits community chaplains and volunteers as needed and offers funeral or memorial services. Participates in on-call duties, pursues ongoing professional development and CPE, and collaborates with the interdisciplinary group to meet spiritual needs. Requires a bachelor's degree in religious studies or related field and a master's degree in theology, divinity, or pastoral studies; certification is preferred. CPR certification and a valid driver’s license are required. Strong communication, outreach to congregations, and ability to work in an interfaith setting are essential.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in religious studies or related subject
- Master's degree in theology, divinity or pastoral studies
- Possible unit of CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education)
- Most organizations require chaplains to be ordained or commissioned and have a letter of endorsement for chaplaincy
- CPR certification
- Licensed driver with insured vehicle
- Willingness to engage in continuing education and CPE
- Experience in hospice care preferred
- Ability to work with diverse beliefs and cultures
- Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills
