Job Summary
The Horticultural Assistant executes daily landscape, garden, and estate maintenance under the direct guidance of the Horticulturist and Director of Buildings and Grounds. This outdoor role maintains luxury grounds including golf course surrounds, a working farm, and a pollination garden. Responsibilities include hands-on plant care, soil management, pest control, seasonal installations, weeding, pruning, mulching, fertilizing, and irrigation/watering-system monitoring under supervision; oversees composting and organic recycling; may direct volunteers in garden collection maintenance; maintains tools and equipment; communicates needs and upgrades with supervisory staff; interacts with club members and staff and may assist with social media content or workshops; may participate in occasional evening or weekend events. Requirements include knowledge of plant care, safe operation of garden tools and machinery, strong communication skills, high attention to detail, dependability, flexibility, and a self-motivated attitude. Education of at least a high school diploma or equivalent is required; prior horticultural or agricultural experience is preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High School Graduate or equivalent
- Previous professional horticultural, landscaping, or agricultural experience preferred
- Must be able to communicate clearly and understand the predominant language of club members and guests
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of plant care, pruning techniques, weed/pest identification, and botanical names
- Safe operation of hand tools, shovels, rakes, trowels, pruning shears, loppers, mowers, trimmers, and utility vehicles
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in both written and verbal interactions
- High attention to detail, dependability, cooperation, flexibility, and a self-motivated attitude
- Previous professional horticultural, landscaping, or agricultural experience preferred
