Horizons - High School Student Success Advisor

Job Summary
Conduct individualized advising for a cohort of approximately 20 high school students, including weekly program participation, regular check-ins, and academic monitoring of attendance and grades. Build strong relationships with students and families by maintaining communication via Horizons SHU platforms, attending family meetings, and assisting with school-related challenges. Support student success by helping them set goals, develop executive functioning skills, and access extracurricular opportunities aligned with their aspirations. Assist in creating intervention plans for students facing academic or engagement challenges and help them explore postsecondary pathways such as college, career, and apprenticeship options. Maintain accurate records of student progress and participate in advisor training and school-year programming. Work evenings and weekends as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, social work, psychology, youth development, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience working with adolescents in educational, youth development, mentoring, counseling, or community-based settings
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
- Must be lawfully authorized to work for any employer in the United States
- Must be available for evening and weekend work
- Must be able to commit to a multi-year duration
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with high school students
- Experience mentoring, advising, coaching, or supporting youth
- Familiarity with college and career readiness programming
- Knowledge of the Greater Bridgeport community and local school systems
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
