Job Summary
Home Care Attendant provides paraprofessional personal care and home support to individuals in their own homes under an established plan of care, working as part of the Home Care team to help frail or disabled clients remain at home safely. Responsibilities include assisting with daily living activities, applying critical thinking to determine priorities, ensuring confidentiality, coordinating with the Resource Coordinator, and traveling as needed to regional facilities. Requires Grade 12 and a Home Care Attendant or Health Care Aide certificate, a valid Class 5 driver’s license with appropriate insurance, ability to travel, and bilingual proficiency for targeted bilingual roles. Shift coverage includes days, evenings, and weekends; in-person role with potential travel within the region.
Required Qualifications
- Grade 12 education required
- Home Care Attendant Certificate or Health Care Aide Certificate with community component from a recognized post-secondary institute
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license, all-purpose insured vehicle and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000
- Demonstrated knowledge of Safe Food Handling
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to apply critical thinking skills
- Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population
- Proficiency in both official languages is required for bilingual positions
- Ability to maintain confidentiality (paper/electronic)
- Good attendance and work record
- Availability to travel to other regional facilities as needed
- Criminal record checks and vulnerable sector checks as required
- Provide three work-related references
- Ability to perform physical tasks as required
