Job Summary
Hmong Translator to support the Department of Justice with Translation, Interpretation, Transcription and other Linguistic Support Services (LSS). The role involves translating documents and media across varied subject areas including legal, medical, financial, and technical content. Responsibilities include translating, transcribing, and interpreting material such as court and deposition content, preserving tone and register, and utilizing CAT tools (SDL Trados Studio). Must ensure confidentiality for sensitive materials, meet ILR 3 translation standards, and hold U.S. citizenship with active Public Trust or higher clearance. Location is Remote / National Capital Region / Various CONUS Locations; some travel may be required.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in translation
- Qualifying ILR 3 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S. (not necessarily consecutive)
- Must have at least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Proficient in English and foreign language vocabularies used in formal, legal, diplomatic, casual contexts
- Knowledge of specialized vocabulary in English and the foreign language related to Government missions
- Fluent writing in native language with professional command of non-native language
- Translate accurately without changes, omissions, or additions
- Preserve tone and register of source materials
- Adhere to linguist ethics
- Proficient in CAT tools with emphasis on SDL Trados Studio
- Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
