Job Summary
Build authentic, trust-based relationships with residents of HiWay 40, a Permanent Supportive Housing program, by modeling recovery and resilience grounded in trauma-informed principles. Assist residents in developing daily living skills such as budgeting, meal planning, and personal hygiene while accompanying them on community errands and transportation. Plan and facilitate on-site group activities, workshops, and social events to promote community connection and well-being. Provide timely de-escalation support during distress, recognize early warning signs of mental health crises, and document all significant incidents for the Director of Supportive Services. Collaborate with case managers and program staff to advance individualized resident goals, maintain accurate documentation, and refer residents to appropriate resources. Perform routine cleaning of interior common areas, exterior upkeep, and snow removal during winter months. Work rotating day or swing shifts, including evenings and weekends, completing required training in trauma-informed care and Mental Health First Aid within 30 days of employment.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Personal lived experience with mental health challenges, housing instability, substance use recovery, or related circumstances
- Candidates must be in a stable place in their own recovery
- Ability to demonstrate resilience and professional boundaries when supporting others
- Mental Health First Aid certification
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Valid Nevada driver's license
- Ability to meet the organization's insurance carrier guidelines
- Demonstrated ability to build trust with individuals experiencing mental health challenges, trauma, or housing instability
- Working knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and recovery-oriented service delivery
- Effective de-escalation and conflict resolution skills
- Strong active listening and verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries while engaging authentically with residents
- Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently
- Basic computer proficiency for documentation and communication purposes
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Lift and move up to 25 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and sit frequently throughout the shift
- Ability to climb stairs as needed
- Ability to accompany residents in the community, including walking and use of public transportation
- Work a rotating day or swing shift schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends as program needs require
Desired Qualifications
- Prior experience in peer support, direct services, case management, or a residential care setting
- Nevada Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) certification
- Ability to obtain CPSS certification within a specified period after hire
